The Flying Poodle

Django flew out of Cincinnati yesterday morning. Thanks to all the help from Island Pet Movers, Dr. Schulze at Kettering Animal Hospital, friends Max and Minette, and Delta Air Cargo, he made it safely and happily to Hawaii in about 14 hours. He had a 3-hour layover in LA where he was walked and fed. He loved all the friendly people at Delta, and he seemed to like his crate quite well too. Now he's relaxing in his new home, where we will all be reunited on Monday.
At Delta Air Cargo, ready and willing to travel in his nice, roomy crate.

Seems like a nice enough place...

4 days to go

After downsizing our household to about half, all our belongings were tightly packed into a 20-ft shipping container. That's about half the size of a normal moving van.

The container will be trucked to California, and then loaded directly onto a ship. The container is waterproof and it even floats! but we hope it won't need to do any floating. The shipment will take 6-8 weeks to reach Hawaii. The house is partially furnished, and we've already sent what we need for a couple of months. That's our house in Oakwood on the left.

3 1/2 weeks

Just 3 1/2 weeks to go - to this.
Our current housesitter, Deb, took this beautiful photo from the second floor lanai. Look closely - there's a double rainbow there.
The green roofs are shadehouses for the plants. Our vegetable garden is in the foreground.

Off they go!

It's a cold wintery sky in Dayton. The shipping company picked up our cars today. They'll ride on this truck to Torrence, California, where they board a ship to Kawaihae, Hawaii. Our friends who are housesitting will pick them up in 3-4 weeks.

Bon Voyage, Toyotas!
